Exploring Australia

Welcome to

Penong

Windmills dominate the skyline of the small town, supplying water from the underground basin. It is the most westerly of the wheat growing areas. The historic Penong Woolshed (now a museum/art/craft shop) was built in 1860 as part of the Barr-Smith pastoral run.

Cactus Beach, 21 kms south of Penong is a world famous surfing beach. Point Sinclair is also popular. Stunning white sandhills and Lake McDonnell Gypsum Mines, the largest in the Southern Hemisphere, are near by.
