CORROBOREE BILLABONG

Tranquil and peaceful, the Corroboree Billabong is a delight and one of the best places in Australia to see abundant wildlife in their natural habitat. It is part of the Mary River eco system. Saltwater and Freshwater crocodiles inhabit the wetlands and it’s remarkable how many there are.

The billabong is beautiful any time of day and is especially picturesque at sunrise and sunset.

You can see wildlife as they go about their daily lives, untouched by civilisation.
Birds that inhabit the billabong include:
     jabirus and brolgas
     magpie geese
     egrets and jacanas
     sea eagles and hawks
     kingfishers and flocks of parrots

It’s a nature-lovers’ and photographers’ paradise. Crocodiles often sun themselves on the banks and it’s surprising how close to them birds venture. They must know if a crocodile is enjoying an after-dinner nap.

The best time to go ito Corroboree Billabong is during the dry season between April and October. It’s about an hour's comfortable drive from Darwin (104 kms).
