NATIONAL MOTOR MUSEUM
The National Motor Museum at Birdwood houses the most comprehensive motoring transport collection in Australia, an attraction not to be missed. It showcases the motoring and social history from the 19th century, through the tough times of the wars and the depression, to huge advances of technology today.
There are more than 400 cars, motorcycles and commercial vehicles. You can get up close and personal with vintage, veteran and classic vehicles and discover the adventures and stories of their owners, drivers and designers.
See unique vehicles that helped shape Australia’s history – the 1899 Shearer, the oldest Australian built vehicle still running. Built at Mannum, this steam-powered car is thought to be the first vehicle built in South Australia.
The Talbot, first to cross the continent from Adelaide to Darwin in 1908, is featured in a magnificent display of the epic 51 day journey. See Tom Kruse’s Outback mail truck and Holdens, Fords and more.
If you have visited before, then come again, because there is always a special feature on and new displays are constantly evolving.
The Holden Pavilion is a favourite. See the very first Holden, the new Holden Monaro and probably the model your family once had.
There is plenty to keep children fascinated like the safe driving interactive screens. Before visiting, download fun puzzle education sheets the kiddies can do as they investigate (see web).
Schools welcome – special educational programs promoting teamwork – the Assembly Plant, Logo Car Factory and building the Model T Factory.
Open 7 days 10am–5pm
