DUCATOON PARK

Ducatoon Park, one of the most picturesque properties in the region, is a boutique facility dedicated to rearing thoroughbred racehorses. You may have seen horses from here racing at Morphettville and other courses. Many have commanded superior results on racetracks and in the sales ring.

Ducatoon Park covers some 325 acres. Around 60 horses live here at any one time, comprising mares, yearlings and foals. Foals are born, reared to yearling stage and prepared for sales, going all over Australia.

Principal Peter Toole has been in the horse breeding business for 52 years. There is not a lot Peter doesn’t know about horses. Over the years he has learned to out think them, as they are bigger than he is. Technology today is fascinating and they can be informed 15 minutes before a mare foals.

When Peter, wife Valmai and family purchased Ducatoon Park in 1995, it was a grain growing farm of 5 paddocks and hadn’t seen horses since horse-team days.

They called the property 'Ducatoon', after a big gangly filly Peter bred and raced. Ducatoon was named after a 12th century coin. She was sold as a yearling, then bought back a year later by the Toole brothers. She became an exceptional racehorse winning 9 races.

The first horses on Ducatoon Park were their 6 mares and 3 outside mares,  now there's 17 mares, plus 20 boarders. The property was transformed with thousands of trees and raceways connecting 17 paddocks.

Guest are also welcome to tour the gardens and walk in aviary.  A highlight is a visit to Peter’s ‘Brag Room’ showcasing his award winning woodwork.
