Exploring Australia

KOPPIO SMITHY MUSEUM

The Museum features Tom Brennand's 1903 Blacksmith Shop and Cottage. Visitors can step back in time, as nearly all displays are reminders of the district’s pioneering past.

There is “Glenleigh”, an 1890’s pinelog thatched cottage which was added to the museum in 1975 and is a premanent reminder of early Australian pioneers.

The Koppio School was brought to the Museum in 1971. Contained therein you will find school records, photos and equipment as well as many other items of interest.

The Women’s Pioneer Room displays washing and sewing machines, irons, old kitchen equipment etc.

Heritage Hall was opened in 1992 and contains family photos, treasured greeting cards, collections and records of pioneering days, donated by Mr Gerhard Jericho.

The Wheat Agent’s Shed, typical of many at railway sidings in the wheatbelt, accepted and graded each farmer’s wheat before the grain was transported to a shipping port.

The Post Office ‘came alive’ only on days when the mail came through. The Bank Agent's shed was 'manned' weekly.

The Bob Dobbins Barbed Wire and Fencing Equipment Collection is a fascinating display.

Dozens of Stationary Engines have been restored to full working order from the tiny 1hp Gilson to the large 12hp Blackstone Engine. In days gone by they were the source of power all over the Peninsula.
