OLD TIMERS TRAEGER MUSEUM

 

The Old Timers Traeger Museum  is a little gem, full of interesting memorabilia – the stories of days past, in particular the progress of the Australian Inland Mission.

Exhibitions feature *Historical photographs  *Aboriginal artefacts  *Reverend John Flynn collection and replica of his buckboard  *Gems and Minerals *Telegraph equipment  *Cattle industry implements *Afghan cameleers information and household items of days past. Historical books for sale.

You will see a pedal radio invented by young Alf Traeger for the first flying doctor.

If you have any queries, please ask the person on duty. Many of them are real “Old Timers” and a mine of information.

Outside there are pieces of equipment including a stationery engine and a huge drilling rig used locally for many years.

The Museum opened officially on 16th June 1966. Many local people donated items. In 1968 John Blakeman, manager of Old Timers planted the date palm grove at the front in memory of the Afghan cameleers who camped nearby.
