PICHI RICHI RAILWAY

Enjoy the ambience of travel from days  past over the original Ghan railway route between Port Augusta and Quorn. Scenery includes deep rock cuttings, stone wall embankments and spectacular iron bridges.

There are Full or Half-day trips and you can hire a private train for special occasions.

The Afghan Express: A steam-hauled train with heritage timber-bodied carriages. Port Augusta to Quorn (return), six hours with a two hour stop for lunch in Quorn.

The Pichi Richi Explorer: A steam train using South Australian railways carriages, some dating from the nineteenth century. Quorn to Woolshed Flat, return two hours.

The Barwell Bull: 85 year old heritage diesel railcar travelling the Pichi Richi Explorer route.

Twilight Explorer: During March and May, relax with a drink aboard the Barwell Bull and watch the sunset over the ranges.

This historic railway line has been restored and operated for the past 40 years by the dedicated volunteers of the Pichi Richi Railway Preservation Society.
