Welcome to

Strathalbyn, Langhorne Creek

Strathalbyn is perfectly situated between rolling hills and fertile plains. The River Angas winds through the town and is the centrepiece of the large public park with riverside walkways and picnic areas.

The picturesque town was the site for the street scene for the film Picnic at Hanging Rock.

Strathalbyn was founded by affluent Scots in 1839. "Strath" means valley and "Alben" is an old name for Scotland.

The town has numerous fine heritage buildings, many house interesting antique, gift and craft shops, art galleries and eateries.

Historic High Street is set on one side of the river and Dawson Street, the commercial centre, is on the other.

The Old Courthouse and Police Station Museum depict Strathalbyn's heritage.

A town walk brochure is available from the Visitor Centre.

Langhorne Creek is home to a number of fine wineries.
