Gateway to Dalhousie Thermal Pools and the Simpson Desert
Oodnadatta is a small outback town on the Neales River. It is the Gateway to Dalhousie Thermal Pools and the Simpson Desert and the centre for the surrounding pasturalists and the Anjikirinji Aboriginal Community.
Oodnadatta was once the bustling railhead for the Ghan railway. Many of the camel trains left from here heading to Central Australia. Chinese market gardens flourished near the Neales River.
Today the Railway Museum has interesting displays of earlier times. There are a number of scenic picnic spots around town.
