The Flinders Ranges
The Flinders Ranges, less than 30 kms from Port Augusta, has a beauty all its own. Magnificent gum trees line the creeks which are mostly dry in summer, but can turn into a ranging flood with rain.
There are numerous walking trails and scenic spots throughout the ranges. The rare yellow footed rock wallaby can be seen in several locations and wallabies, kangaroos, emus and eagles abound. Parrots and other birdlife are plentiful.
The Northern Flinders region is more rugged and abounds with towering granite peaks, razorback ridges, slashed by precipitous gorges with deep waterholes and gumtrees. There is prolific birdlife, the rare yellow footed rock wallaby and other marsupials.
It is also an important geographical region too.
