Humpty Doo, on the outskirts of Darwin on the Arnhem Highway is a shopping, dining and commercial hub for outer Darwin and the surrounding fruit growing rural region. It is well known for its mangoes and other tropical fruits.
Humpty Doo area had its beginnings with a grand plan to grow rice on the nearby wetland plains and nearby Fogg Dam was built for that purpose. The project for rice growing was not successful, but the fruit orchards and gardens currently in production are.
Fogg Dam, a popular attraction is a haven for wildlife and is one of the few wetland habitats accessible all year round. There are board walks, shaded areas and bird hides for watching the birdlife undetected. Public toilets are there too.
The Fogg Dam turnoff from the Arnhem Highway is 25 kms from the Stuart Highway interesction.
