Drovers Park celebrates the lives and achievements of drovers, on the track droving cattle to market, away from home for long stretches.
In April 2012 a plaque was erected commemorating the epic journeys and achievements of Explorer John McDouall Stuart and companions 150 years ago. Aboriginal people's connections were also celebrated.
LAKE WOODS
Lake Woods is a bird watchers paradise, as well as a popular swimming and fishing spot. The large ephemeral wetland, on the western edge of the Barkly Tableland, is 7 kms from Elliott, accessed by an unsealed road. The Lake is about 350 sq kms, but during high rainfall can expand to more than double its size.
LONGREACH WATERHOLE
Longreach Waterhole, 12 km west of Elliott, is small picturesque lake which expands seasonally. It is a peaceful setting with gas BBQs and unpowered campsites. Migratory birds frequent the area. Longreach Waterhole is a favourite spot with locals and is not signposted.
The turnoff is on the left, on the outskirts of Elliott, travelling north.
