Boston Island was named by Matthew Flinders in 1802 after his homeland. The island is a fully operational sheep station.
Mikkira Station
Mikkira Station is the former head station of a large sheep run south settled in 1842. The restored original homestead, stone walling and old gardens can be seen. The birdlife is plentiful in the extensive stony native vegetation at Mikkira and koalas live in the Manna gums. The best time to visit is in the cooler months.
Mikirra is situated off the Fishery Bay to the south of Port Lincoln. Permits are available at service stations and the Port Lincoln Visitor Information Centre.
Parnkalla Walking Trail
Parnkalla Walking Trail was named after the local Aboriginal people whose Dreaming depicted the beauty of Port Lincoln.It joins the Investigator Trail that begins its journey at North Shields and winds through Port Lincoln along the coast south to Lincoln National Park. Parnkalla Walking Trail meanders through natural bushland along the foreshore of the beautiful natural harbour.
Puckridge Park Lookout
Puckridge Park Lookout at the park, with its natual bush setting, offers wonderful views of the the city, silos and harbour.
Whaler's Way
Whaler's Way at the southernmost tip of Eyre Peninsula has some of the most spectacular rugged scenery in South Australia. The area is a photographer's delight with its clifftop scenery, pounding surf, crevasses, caves and beaches.
There is a camping ground at Redbanks, where the 400 metre walk down the beach is well worthwhile. (Camping by permit only.)
Permits to visit Whalers Way are available from service stations, the Port Lincoln Visitor Information Centre and other outlets around Port Lincoln.
Winter Hill Lookout
Winter Hill Lookout provides a spectacular coastal panoramas. Located 5kms out of town on the Flinders Highway, Winter Hill sits high over Port Lincoln with an uninterrupted view of the city, Lincoln Cove, Boston Bay, Lincoln National Park, Boston Island, Sleaford Mere, Whaler's Way and Thistle Island.
