The Oodnadatta Track and the Stuart Highway

Welcome to

Gulnare

Gulnare is a small hamlet on the Goyder Highway about a kilometer from Horrocks Highway.

It is thought the surrounding Gulnare Plain was named in honour of John Horrock’s dog, who caught emus which enhanced the pot for Horrocks and his exploration team.

Gulnare township is dominated by the massive silos that can be seen glistening in the sun from the Horrocks Highway.

The town began as a small land subdivision for a private township called Gulnare South. Gulnare is central to a rural cereal growing and farming area.
