Monarto is known for the Monarto Zoo, an open range sanctuary with numerous habitats, the largest revegetation project of its kind in the state’s history. Monarto is situated between Adelaide and Murray Bridge.
The land at Monarto was originally set aside for a satelite city, but that did not eventuate. There is Mallee dryland farming in the area and an industrial area caters for supermarket storage and depot.
