Mulloway fishing is popular this time of the year especially the far west coast. Ales Krejcir of Port Lincoln has recently returned from a quick trip to the Yalata Lands area; he is shown holding up a fat mulloway which hit the scales at 32 lb. Ales caught this and others of similar size using fresh bait. He also said most anglers caught some mulloway with fish ranging from just legal to in excess of 50lb.

The Fowler’s Bay big blue morwong held by Jamie Crawford weighed in at 7.7 kilo.

FARWEST
The offshore scene at Fowlers Bay is starting to fire up as can be seen by some of the accompanying images. Steve Wade of Sam’s Far West Coast Fishing Tours summarises the area as “Hearing of mulloway up to 80lb from the far west around Yalata with lots of smaller fish ranging from 20-40lb from Ceduna to Yalata. The Dog fence was smitten with weed as at Sunday. Scott’s Beach has had schools of salmon and the jetty has been producing fairly consistent squid.

We had an estimated 3m white pointer visit us on the boat near Fowlers Bay.
Plenty of pink snapper, red snapper to 3.5kg, queen snapper to almost 8kg, small Samson’s and groper and good quantities of early season tuna.
Tuna have arrived and although small there seem to be quite few around. I have included some images from the most recent tour with angler’s names. Photos are mostly by Jamie Crawford, who toured with us last week.”

And the tuna both weighed 9 kilo. The happy anglers are in sunnies Balir Anson of Melbourne & Michael Smitheron of Adelaide. Steve Wade said these fish were picked up trolling lures in lumpy seas on the way back to Fowlers after a successful days fishing for snapper and nanny’s.

Steve Wade of Sam’s Far West Coast Fishing Tours got customers on to some great fish despite strong winds hampering efforts. Paul Delaney from Melbourne is pictured with a 50 pound Sampson Fish caught trolling a Rapala CD 18 in shallow water.
